Wood Tech Re-Imagined

Asian Paints invited eight prominent designers to re-imagine iconic pieces of furniture from their collection, using the wide range of techniques, finishes, and colours provided by Asian Paints WoodTech range.

ROOSHAD SHROFF

Project: Belly Table
Product: WoodTech Emporio PU Palette  + WoodTech Polyester

Architect and designer Rooshad Shroff’s ‘Belly’ is a dining table in solid Burma teak wood. Inspired by the vivid patterns of Fordite, a by-product of the automotive industry, Rooshad set out to reinvent the Belly table using eight different colours from Asian Paints WoodTech Emporio PU palette. The table was first covered in layers of paint, each of a different colour. Once completely dry, the table was sanded at different intensities, revealing the various layers. After the desired effect had been achieved, the table was coated with WoodTech Polyester clear finish for a bright, glossy effect.

Project: Sparkle Tables
Product: WoodTech Insignia Mother-of-Pearl finish + WoodTech Insignia Marble finish + WoodTech Polyester + WoodTech Insignia Black Drops on Gold

Maviya Sabri’s ‘Sparkle’ tables originally had wooden table tops with leather-covered wood. She redesigned her tables using a range of effects from the Asian Paints WoodTech Insignia range: A bright blue shade in a Mother-of-Pearl finish and a combination of grey and black in a Marble finish, both coated with WoodTech Polyester clear finish. The side-table with the gold base was finished in WoodTech Insignia’s Black Drops on Gold finish on the glass top.

YASHESH VIRKAR

Project: Asscher Cabinet
Product: WoodTech Emporio Clear and White + WoodTech Emporio PU Palette

Three layers of Asian Paints WoodTech Emporio Clear and White finish, applied directly to the existing walnut veneer helped Yashesh Virkar rethink his ‘Asscher’ cabinet.  A system of stripes in subtle blue, and painting the legs of the cabinet in bright red, both from the WoodTech PU Palette, make the cabinet look like a piece of chocolate candy, seducing the imagination.

AYUSH KASLIWAL

Project: Extrude Coffee Table
Product: WoodTech Emporio PU Palette

The ‘Extrude’ coffee table was originally made in metal, featuring a small extruded metal form, that can be combined in infinite variations to create an ever-changing form. Ayush Kasliwal chose to reimagine his original design using the solid chromatic quality of a bold blue from Asian Paints’ WoodTech Emporia PU Palette range.

ANJALI MODY

Project: Crackle Side Table
Product: WoodTech Insignia Craqulet finish + WoodTech Emporio PU Palette

Anjali used the Craqulet finish from Asian Paints’ WoodTech Insignia range on one of her tables, and a white finish from the WoodTech Emporio PU Palette on the other. Her choice was inspired by the way in which ‘Craqulet’ dominates the form it is used on. A simple, linear, blocked form is transformed into an organic jungle of cracks, which inspired the name ‘Crackle’.

VARUN MOTIHAR

Project: T1, C1 and R1 Tables
Product: WoodTech PU Palette Metallics Range + WoodTech clear finish + WoodTech Emporio PU

The pyramids of the ‘T1’ table in MDF, are brought to life using the Silver Diva shade from Asian Paints’ WoodTech PU Palette Metallics range, giving the piece a linear disposition that distinguishes it from the original fibre finish. For the stacked cubes of the ‘C1’ table in CP teak, Varun Motihar used the WoodTech Melamyne Matt clear finish, for its warm look and as a way to bring out the organic grain. The sphere of the ‘R1’ table in Sheesham (Indian rosewood), is finished in a WoodTech Emporio PU clear finish, giving it a glossy look that helps accentuate its fluid form.

PUNIT JASUJA

Project: Square Pegs Coffee Table
Product: WoodTech Insignia Drops with Shadow and Granite finishes

Glass finished with Asian Paints WoodTech Insignia Drops with Shadow and Granite finishes change the plain glass tops of designer Punit Jasuja’s ‘Square Pegs’ coffee tables, transforming them dramatically. The finishes create depth while retaining lightness due to their reflective qualities.

ALEX DAVIS

Project: Pleated Bar
Product: WoodTech PU Palette  Metallics range

The form of Alex Davis’ ‘Pleated Bar’ takes its inspiration from the world of fashion and haute couture. The characteristic form, and origin story of the design come together to make it a fitting canvas for reinterpretation with the subtle old-world glamour of the Sable Gold shade from Asian Paints’ WoodTech PU Palette Metallics range.
