NYCxDESIGN 2017- Celebration of Design and Creativity

New York City turns into an arena to host NYCxDESIGN 2017 – a platform to highlight relevant New-York-based as well as international practices and extraordinary achievements in various disciplines of Design, Art and Culture, from May 03-24, 2017

Every year in the month of May, New York turns into a playground for a magnificent festival that celebrates creativity and vision. New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), City agencies, the Mayor’s Office, City Council and a Steering committee comprising of leaders and leading institutions across most design disciplines, come together to host NYCxDESIGN.

NYCxDESIGN 2017 is an ode to New York’s diverse design community:A celebration of global design and its extraordinary achievements in various disciplines of Design, Art and Culture.

Initiated in 2013, the NYCxDESIGN began as a stage that collates the best practices in design and brings it to the fore for the people of New York as well as around the world. It was established as an ode to New York City’s diverse design community and its contributions to the city’s cultural fabric and economy of the five boroughs and some of the latest in global design. Since its inception, NYCxDESIGN has grown manifold in scope and popularity both locally and internationally.

The venues for the NYCxDESIGN are spread across New York City, and include events such as exhibitions, installations, discussion forums, trade shows and open studios that focus on a wide range of disciplines such as urban, fashion, interior, interactive design and more.

Key NYCxDESIGN events include ICFF, WantedDesign, CollectiveDesign, BKLYN Designs, NYCxDESIGN Awards, Frieze Art Fair, Soho Design District, Tribeca Design District, Design Pavilion, American Design Club, the New York Design Center, graduate shows from the city’s leading design schools, and museum exhibitions.

Following the successful reception of the Design Pavilion in 2016, they have declared two new locations for 2017. The first Design Pavilion with an interactive display and an information hub will be set right in the heart of Times Square and will serve as a public center for NYCxDESIGN. Another Design Pavilion in its lower East Side downtown location at the Sara D. Roosevelt Park, will create a showcase for innovation and interactive exhibits with a strong industry focus.

As simply summarised by the NYCxDESIGN team, “Spanning all disciplines of design, NYCxDESIGN creates a collaborative platform for cultural and commercial opportunities, elevates established and emerging design practices and increases awareness of and appreciation for design by all audiences.”
