The panel included: AB Rogers, Founder of Ab Rogers Design, Tina Norden, Project Director at Conran & Partners, Jenny Jones, Founder of Studio Jenny Jones, Sacha Leong, Design Project Leader at Design Universal Studio, Bethan Wood, Christopher Ash, Founder of Project Orange, Afroditi Krassa, Founder of AfroditiKrassa & Fiona Thompson, Principal at Richmond. The panel were to choose projects from 13 exterior & interior surface categories.

The Broad, which belonged to the Light and Interior Surface Category, was declared the winner of the Surface Design 2017 Awards.

A contemporary art museum, the Broad was designed by Diller Scofidio & Renfro along with Gensler. The exterior surface resembles a honeycomb and makes way for ample amount of natural light. The vault is another interesting space to look out for. Primarily a museum storage, it also contributes to the shape of the structure. The gallery has been designed column-free and is soaked in sufficient light all around.  In all, the Broad is quite a masterpiece.

CQ would soon map out the works of a few finalists across several Exterior and Interior Surface Categories at the Surface Design Awards. Stay Tuned!
