“T House sits in a huddled community of 15 bungalows, which had to abide by the builder’s common plans, façade planning, finishing treatment and appearance. Owing to these restrictions, the designing of the interiors became our way of experimenting with the aesthetics of the house”, explains Kalpak. With the passages and circulation zones being the core and the living spaces enveloping them, the resulting T-shaped cross-section lent the house its name. This also helped in keeping visual connectivity to the outdoors & ample ventilation.
Sticking to minimalism and nature-inspired aesthetics, wood and wicker take centre stage in this heavenly abode. The house boasts an old-world charm and an organic ambience that will stay in trend for years to come. Architect Kalpak Shah adhered to the client’s brief of contemporizing the mid-century architecture into a timeless residence. The use of fresh materials like terracotta, wood & wicker elevate the look and optimize functionality.
When asked about the seamless blend of sustainable architecture & contemporary design, KS quips, “The relationship between client and architect is extremely fundamental, as this is a highly tailor-made home to reflect the client’s comfort, lifestyle and personality. Colours are inspired by nature – the black granite floors and the hand-painted matte cement textured finish walls by Asian Paints make a subtle statement like no other.” While there is cohesiveness in design, one can also witness design customization as per room size.
“The basic aesthetic of this house is clean, simple and minimal. No furniture or feature is added without any use. Hence, bare walls become a huge volume in the house. Besides wood and flooring, the walls become the largest object. The Asian Paints Cement Textured Paint brought in the perfect hue and added versatility with its natural vibe.” The marble dust hand-painted grey walls fit the design language and complete the entire look.
