A 2BHK that’s home to a photographer and his spouse, the Madhu Akula apartment designed by Intaglio Designs in Ahmedabad mirrors the vibrant lifestyle of its occupants. Space management was key in transforming this compact apartment into a lively space full of materials, colours and textures. Overall the apartment gives refuge to the occupants from the bustle of Ahmedabad, a youthful, cheerful space for the creative mind to unwind in.

Colourful accents, neutral shades and solid wood.

While the yellow of the furniture and light-coloured surfaces give the home some colour, the layering of beige and grey surfaces, and solid wood balances the spaces. Reflective and transparent surfaces create an expansive effect, however by using multipurpose furniture, utility and space in the apartment have been maximised.

A glass partition divides the living and the guest bedroom making the space feel bigger. The care taken to craft details – like matching the shade of the wooden frame with that of the furniture – gives the home a special kind of warmth.

In the living room, the light-coloured wooden centre table becomes the central attraction while the cushions and the floral lounge chair make it feel softer and more comforting. The chair and floor lamp create a quiet and cozy nook.

At the entrance, the wooden picket gate and the bench remind one of traditional Indian houses with front-yards and verandahs. The veiled entrance gives a glimpse of the bright interiors, welcoming one cordially into a modern Indian home.
