Perceiving beauty and beyond.

When there is a void or emptiness, it gains definition from the surrounding mass. Similarly, when more than two generations of folks co-exist in one family and live under the same roof, not only does space fill up, but it strengthens that family’s bond, which continues to remain sturdy as a rock. Monica Khosla Bhargava, the principal architect of Kham Consultants created a home for one such multi-generational family in Kolkata.

The Rock embraces the contrasts and harmonies architecturally and in terms of the colour scheme as well. The various patterns created in this dwelling space are unique, which would have not been possible without certain custom colours and creations by Asian Paints. Kham Consultants’ team has breathed nature into architecture in this humble yet sophisticated abode by incorporating travertine, teak wood, steel and copper elements effortlessly.

The wall is created using travertine rock that adds lustre. Sleek air vents are integrated with a conversation created by the tiny copper sculptures. The topmost guy in the sculpture series is designed to be looking at the faceted ceiling. The other side of the wall has a beautiful painting against the Sombre Asian Paints wallpaper that goes along the length of the travertine wall feature. The pleasant shades of the sofas clad in suede and a granite top coffee table adds a rustic touch to the ambience.

The polygonal cut of the living space ceiling is balanced by the polygonal shape of the staircase and its flowing Art Deco balustrade. The staircase is made of mild steel and finished off with PU metallic paint by Asian Paints. Similarly, the handrail is made of teak wood and is finished with PU Emporio wood polish by Asian Paints. Both the shades are in matte and in the same tones, which helps to achieve a monolithic form.

When the mind becomes the space, a temple is created. With that idea in mind, Kham Consultants have created this meditation space in The Rock Bungalow. This space would feel incomplete without the Nilaya Makhmal wallpaper with the Purna Kalash motif. The wallpaper spills out the same sandalwood tones as the carved leaf. The light at the back of the leaf intermingles with the neutral tones on the wall to radiate a sense of peaceful atmosphere around. The slatted ceiling above is finished off with the PU Emporio wood polish by Asian Paints, which covers the air ducts elegantly.

The pastel hues exuding from the wallpaper on the wall by the table and the painted wall by the windows, fills the room with lush tropical freshness. The carpet on the floor emits pleasant yet bright colours.
