Efforts at Khandala

How we cope with

Crisis

As we grapple with a pandemic that we have never seen before in our lifetimes and stay at our homes and self-quarantine, there is a certain section of Indians that do not have that luxury. With their incomes coming to an abrupt halt, the migrant workers are possibly the worst hit in this fight for survival. The concern for them is not corona virus, but not going to sleep on an empty stomach.

200 such migrant workers were identified in and around Khandala. With the help of local administration (Police Department and Gram Panchayats) the migrant workers had been able to find shelter, but food was still a far-fetched dream. When we were informed about this situation, we spoke to the local administration and were given a go ahead to provide food material to the migrant workers. The administration at their end assured us that cooking utensils will be arranged by them.

With the help of our local NGO partner Vanarai Trust and CCSR team, we have done distribution of food kits to migrant labour stranded in Khandala: 3 phases of distribution was done wherein in each phase we distributed 80 kits to stranded people. 1 kit was sufficient for a family of 5 for upto 15 days. Around 1200 stranded migrant workers have been provided food kits.

Our Contribution

Distribution was done in the following areas:

  • Circus group in Shirwal : 52 (3 times)
  • Bhor: 40 (2 times)
  • Kesurdi & Khandala: 40 (2 times)
  • Other stranded groups: 47 (2 times)
  • Lonand: 61 (1 time)

Apart from the above, we also recognize the constant efforts being put up by the front-line workers like Police Department and Health Professionals. As a small contribution towards their fight, we have provided surgical masks and sanitizers to the Tehsildar (Khandala) for their use. Support was provided to frontline workers in Khandala like Police Workers, essential staff through 500 N95 masks and sanitizers

We also tried to make a small contribution in this fight to Phaltan District Health centre by providing 300 PPE Kits.

The kits were used for staff working in the following areas to protect them when treating COVID patients:

  • Sub District Health Centre
  • Institutional Health Centre
  • Municipal Council Staff

We have provided our Mobile Medical Unit (Ambulance) to government authorities since April to facilitate movement of frontline health workers as well as covid suspects from their places to quarantine facilities in a safe manner. Our Mobile Medical Unit continues to remain with the authorities for their support.
