On a green, wooded street in Chandigarh is the home of India’s legendary cricket icon, Yuvraj Singh. Over the years, the world has seen him as a swashbuckler, playing with natural-born flamboyance, but what the world doesn’t see is all the work behind the scenes. And in this lies a parallel: his home too is a years-long project backed by hard work and single-minded focus.
The focus in his home is not just cricket, though. Front and centre in this home are his childhood passions: snooker and table tennis. Elsewhere in the home is a fully kitted gym and a recovery pool, and up on the roof is something for his new sport obsession: a golf simulator is under construction there.
Every home has a focal point, a centre that acts as the emotional and/or spiritual core of the home. In this case, it’s Yuvraj’s very own wall of fame. Built with love and great pride by his mother, it celebrates key parts of his illustrious cricketing career: both the 2011 World Cup Man of the Series bat, and the 2007 World Twenty20 “six sixes” bat hang here, and so does the ball he used to claim his five wicket haul in the World Cup.
The home has a contemporary façade, with geometric patterns and stark white walls. Large, double-height floor to ceiling windows bring in lots of light into the ground floor. There’s a distinctive atmosphere here: the rooms include rustic accents that meld with contemporary
Climb up to the terrace, and you’ll see why Yuvraj and his mother chose this spot: there’s mountains up ahead, and a view that’s green and beautiful. This is the spot for their morning tea, and it’s the perfect metaphor for this part of Yuvraj’s Singh’s life: quiet, peaceful, and far from the madding crowd
