How to Apply WoodTech PU Palette Metallics?
Pre-Painting Steps
- Cleaning: Ensure the wood is seasoned with a moisture content between 10–15%. Clean the surface thoroughly to remove dust, oil, or other contaminants. Proper ventilation in the application area is essential.
- Sanding: Sand the wooden surface along the grain using sandpaper no. 180. Transition to finer grits like 320 or 400 for a smoother finish. Remove all loose dust particles before proceeding.
- Insulating (Optional): Apply 1–2 coats of WoodTech Epoxy Insulator to seal resins and oils in veneer or plywood, improving surface uniformity and reducing paint absorption.
- Dent Filling: Even out dents or imperfections using WoodTech Filler with a putty knife. Allow it to dry and sand the surface for smooth application.
Paint Application Process
- Step 1: Apply the first coat of WoodTech PU Palette Primer Surfacer White in a 90:10 (base to hardener) mixing ratio using a spray gun. Allow drying for 4–5 hours, then sand lightly with fine grit.
- Step 2: Apply the second coat of primer using the same method. Ensure uniform coverage. Wait 4–5 hours before moving to the next step.
- Step 3: For the first metallic coat, mix WoodTech PU Palette Metallics with the hardener in an 80:20 ratio. Spray evenly and allow it to dry between 25–40 minutes or after 6 hours.
- Step 4: Apply the second coat of metallic paint to enhance depth and brilliance. Avoid sanding the metallic coats to maintain their sheen and integrity.
- Step 5 : Finish with two topcoats of WoodTech PU Matt, Semi-Gloss, or High Gloss, mixed in an 80:20 ratio. Allow each coat to dry for 12–14 hours for optimal results.
