Guide to Applying Damp Sheath Interior

Few things are as disheartening as discovering damp patches on your interior walls. Whether it’s a stubborn wet spot, a musty odor, or unsightly efflorescence, these issues indicate a problem deeper than the wall surface.

Seeing peeling paint and white residue due to damp spots can be distressing. But before you consider drastic measures like tearing down the wall or opting for expensive fixes, let's explore simpler, more cost-effective solutions.

Damp spots are more than just an eyesore—they can lead to more significant and common waterproofing problems if left unaddressed.

Applying the Damp Sheath Interior Primer

Follow these steps to apply the DSI to achieve the best waterproofing inside house.

Before a Fresh Coat of Paint

You can waterproof a freshly constructed wall before you apply your favorite top coat of paint.

Follow these steps for optimum results.

  • ● Clean the wall with 180-grit sandpaper or a wire brush to remove dirt and loose particles

  • ● Apply a 1:1: diluted coat of Trucare Interior Wall Primer diluted in a 1:1 ratio to the cleaned substrate, following the coverage recommendations

  • ● To achieve a smoother painting finish, follow up the primer after 3 to 4 hours with a single coat of Trucare wall putty

  • ● Sand the surface with 180-grit sandpaper after 4 to 6 hours. Wipe clean with a dry muslin cloth

  • ● Apply a single coat of undiluted DSI on the cleaned wall and let it dry for 3 to 4 hours

While Repainting your Walls

You see damp spots on your painted interior walls, probably because the previous waterproofing was inadequate or not present.

You can waterproof your previously painted walls with DSI in the following manner:

  • ● To remove dirt and loose particles from the walls, use 180-grit sandpaper

  • ● You can use the SmartCare Crack Seal to fill any gaps or cracks on the wall (up to 3.5 mm)

  • ● Apply a single coat of undiluted DSI on the wall, adhering to the coverage recommendations. Coverage can vary depending on the porosity of the wall

  • ● Apply DSI using a brush followed by a roller for the best results

  • ● Cover the primer with two coats of paint of your choice after 3 to 4 hours

When the Walls are Moist or with Damaged Putty

Follow these steps if your walls are moist or have damaged putty before applying the DSI.

  • ● Clean the moist wall or damaged putty with 180-grit sandpaper to free them from dirt or loose particles

  • ● Follow it up with Trucare Interior Wall Primer diluted in a ratio of 1:1 with water. Stick to the coverage recommendations

  • ● Apply 2 coats of Trucare Wall Putty after 3 to 4 hours. Sand it with 180-grit sandpaper after 4 to 6 hours

  • ● Wipe clean with a dry muslin cloth and apply DSI

Things to Remember When Applying DSI

Keep these things in mind when applying DSI for the best waterproofing results.

  • ● Don't apply DSI when the temperature is below 10 °C, the humidity level is over 90%, or the walls have a moisture content of over 40%

  • ● Stir and strain the primer thoroughly before application

  • ● Don't spread the primer more than the recommended coverage
