Why Is Roof Waterproofing Important?
A roof or the terrace is the top covering of your home which protects all your loved ones and cherished possessions inside it against rain, extreme weather conditions during summer and winter. An envelope that protects your homes' interior and exterior, it is the most exposed part of your house. Normally we expect the roof of our homes to be watertight and strong enough to withstand all the challenges nature throws in its way. But in reality because of the constant exposure to extreme weather roofs gradually get damaged. If we don’t prevent this damage the entire building could suffer from water leakage, seepage and cracks.
Let us understand the factors that contribute to roof damage in a little more detail:
- Monsoons: With monsoons becoming increasingly sporadic and unpredictable, and continuing well into the onset of winters, roofs have become more prone to rapid water related damage.
- Heat damage: Prolonged exposure to direct sun rays and heat not just in summer but all through the year.
- Cracks and gaps: Without repair and timely action, cracks caused by long term exposure to changes in the environment can widen and weaken the entire surface area of the roof. Gaps between fixtures like door frames on rooftops and concrete become possible points for leakage from roof.
- Installations on roofs: Roofs are generally the place for the installation of water tanks in a home. Any leakage from the tank, broken pipeline or clogged drainage can damage a roof considerably causing water leakage from the terrace.
