Grout: The Secret Hack To A Perfectly Waterproofed Floor

Are you still having to deal with seepage issues even after doing everything right with the primer, proofing, and tile adhesive? Did you consider this small but crucial part in the mix for long-lasting waterproofing, called tile grout?

What is grout?

Grout is a filler used in between the joints of tiles once the latter is laid. Most grouts are a powdered mix of cement, lime, colour pigment and sometimes sand that hardens when mixed with water and is left to cure. Grout is a necessary and integral part of many tile and stone jobs for several reasons and can help avoid the below most common issues.

1. Accumulated dust and grime in the tile joints

Benefits of grouting

  1. Gives floors and walls a crisp and finished appearance.

  2. Helps keep dirt and debris from getting between and under tiles.

  3. Adds rigidity and strength to the tile installation.

  4. Keeps moisture out of the substrate.

  5. Helps keep the tile lines straight.

  6. Prevents tiles from rubbing against each other and cracking.

Grout is an essential part of the floor tile installation process, but choosing the right grout can make all the difference between an installation that looks and performs beautifully over time and one that rapidly deteriorates into a dangerous eye-sore.

Types of grout

1) Cement-based grout

Cement-based grout is used for smaller grout joints that measure 1/8th of an inch or less. Traditional methods of using just cement and sand in smaller joints don't work anymore, and it may compromise the structural strength of the floors over time. Cement-based grouts on the other hand, may require a little extra work but it can guarantee best results for years. They are ideal for joins between walls, floors, and countertops, and are typically closed with a sealant for protection from spills, stains, discoloration, and UV lighting.

2) Epoxy grout
